"Fashion. Fetish. Freedom."

We hear a lot about Brighton’s mod scene; it’s time to celebrate the bikers!

This is the tale of a Sussex-based group of gay bikers and leather enthusiasts, following their travels from the 1960s fashion industry to a very different landscape at the end of the 20th century.

Despite the official archive of the Sussex Lancers being destroyed, Alf Le Flohic has pieced together their story. Minority history is rarely treasured and easily lost, so this collection reflects years of interviews, archive research and the generosity of private collectors to make it possible.

Brighton-based Alf Le Flohic is an independent researcher into the LGBTQIA+ history of the south coast of England and the author of The Magic Farm and other queer tales. He lives in Brighton with his feline overseer Lulu. His favourite kind of history is oral.

Published in collaboration with Homo Made Books, to accompany the exhibition of the same name at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.
