On Friday 23 October, we welcome David McAlmont to the shop in celebration of 30 years of The Sound of McAlmont & Butler.
When David McAlmont burst into the top 10 in 1995 with "Yes" – his soaring collaboration with former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler – everyone was taken by surprise.
For many queer music fans, David's arrival – all blue lipstick, Judy Garland vocal stylings and lyrical depictions of gay love and heartbreak – came not a moment too soon.
Join us as we welcome the man behind that voice to celebrate the 30th anniversary remastered reissue of "The Sound of McAlmont & Butler".
David will be spending the afternoon with us, playing some of his favourite records from our racks, selling exclusive merch and, if we’re lucky, perhaps treating us to a little live singing at the piano.
Then, in the evening, we’ll gather for a very special playback session and Q&A, revisiting some of the key songs from the album, and hearing the stories behind this remarkable moment in pop history.
It’s a real privilege to have David with us, and with just 30 tickets for the evening session, we expect this one to be pretty special.
